As a photographer Bonadies
has devoted most of her career to investigate traditions, in
her own words: the old manner of portraiture to represent power
and “the Other”.
Such visual analysis of human behavioral patterns
give her quest an anthropological tone, however, the main intention
is to reveal the “new” and the changes that took
place to get there. The elaboration of habitual records during
her process creates visual “inventories” of human
traits that ultimately reveal the real subject in Bonadies’ works:
the backdrop or how Carlos Palacios referred to as - el Convidado
de Piedra - the “Stone Guest”.
Patient in her search, Bonadies works in thematic
series where process and systematic ways to record it become
intrinsic to the work. Bonadies may present a point of view,
she may even intend a narrative, but the irony of her approach
is that when action is included, more is left unsaid.
